Hardware Park Adopts Bessel Origin for its NextGen Program

The Spring 2024 NextGen cohort of 4 high-school students and 9 UAB students is already off to a strong start. During the 12-week internship, the students are addressing the opioid crisis, inspired by startup entrepreneur Kyle Berman of OD Revive. On completion, participants will earn Bessel Origin digital badges and have a real-world medtech development project to add to their resumes.

Bessel engineers Cynthia Bautista and Andres Gutierrez are mentors to the three teams.

“The creativity and spark these students bring to their work has been incredible. The next generation of engineers continues to inspire me,” says Chris Danek, founder and CEO of Bessel.

In 2023, Hardware Park was designated as an Innovative Entity by Innovate Alabama and awarded a grant to start MedTech Design Internship programs for high school and college students in partnership with Bessel.
